Preschool Program
Ages 3 yrs. old.
The preschoolers at I Can Preschool and Child Care strive in a classroom environment that promotes a strong concentration on early literacy and language development concepts. The goal of this program is to prepare our preschoolers for our advanced Pre – K curriculum, and their success in later academic outcomes and opportunities. Our preschool curriculum is guided by developmentally appropriate practices (DAP), and the Preschool Learning Foundations and Framework created by the California Department of Education.
Introduction to Early Writing Concepts
Practicing writing skills through activities that are designed to enhance fine motor skills, proper pencil grip, and linear writing structures.
Students will also work in small and large groups with educator directed writing lessons.
Introduction to Early Math Reasoning
Students will be expected to color sort, create simple ABA and ABAB patterns.
Educators will expose preschoolers to the writing process of making numbers 1 – 20.
Students will also learn to name and recognize shapes, colors, and numbers 1 – 20.
Early Literacy and Language Development Concepts
Educators will guide word awareness, giving the students the ability to recognize simple words, such as, “I Love You.”
Educators will teach how to manipulate sounds and their use as it relates to word and sentence structure.
Educators will teach early reading comprehension concepts, with age-appropriate materials, such as interactive storytelling, puppets, and felt board stories.
Introduction to Phonological Awareness
Educators will teach word awareness, sentence comprehension, and sentence segmentation.
Syllable awareness, syllable blending, and syllable segmentation.
Onset – Rime understanding of onset – rime, and onset – rime blending.
